BEFORE BREAK

5.00pm to 6.30pm
Research at Imperial Peering into the Pore Space with X-rays.
Martin Blunt, Professor of Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College London.

Martin is a Professor of Petroleum Engineering at Imperial College London where he has been for the last 20 years. He also worked for BP and taught at Stanford University.

Martin will provide an overview of the current revolution in our understanding of flow, transport and reaction processes in porous media, enabled by 3D imaging from the nanometre scale upwards, microfluidics, and improved numerical methods. This will be illustrated by examples from work at Imperial College London on multiphase flow in rocks with application to carbon dioxide storage and oil recovery.

The talk will end with a discussion of how the same ideas can be used to understand and design processes in a wide variety of porous materials, including gas diffusion layers in fuel cells and surgical masks.

AFTER BREAK

6.45pm to 8.15pm.
Six trends in decommissioning in the last 18 months.

Martha Vasquez, Associate Director, Upstream Oil & Gas, BCG.

Martha Vasquez has spent more than 15 years in Upstream including 10 years at Schlumberger. Passionate about performance improvement, decommissioning and oilfield services. She is also an Associate Director at BCG. Martha has an MBA from London Business School and a degree in Physics from Tec de Monterrey in Mexico.

Six global trends in decomissioning:

  • Decom started to become part of the Energy Transition narrative
  • Alternative decom delivery models started to emerge
  • Various attempts of multi-operator collaboration
  • Boomerang liability risk has materialized or become pressing
  • Scrutiny on HSE incidents and risks is re-appearing
  • Countries are launching and tightning decom regulation
